... lies half way between Rio and São Paulo, nestled in the mountains about 40 km from Paraty. It can be also reached from the highway (Via Dutra) between Rio and São Paulo.

The town and it's surroundings are considered to have Brazil's best climate, and host a number of waterfalls and cascades.

It is also known as the capital of ceramic artisans, some of international renown; as well as being internationally acclaimed as a most significant birdwatcher's area.

The rural ambience is enhanced by some very good restaurants and bars, besides a number of the more popular and favorably priced ones.

One can just stroll, or go on organized hikes. Horseback rides, trips to Paraty and elsewhere in the area, can be arranged (some of these in old-fashioned "Beetles" even).
